Field Wiring Housing
I want to paint the field winding housing black wrinkel finish. I had quite a time finding that kind of paint. Finally found it at one of my local auto parts stores.
Here is what I started out with.. Over spray from a past accident repair. Overall pretty crappy looking.
Next step is to media blast the housing. At this point, I was trying to keep the motor brushes attached but later decided to remove them for safe keeping. Turns out they are held on with a spring between the brushes so it was pretty easy to remove.
Here are the two brushes with the spring. The two little "T" shaped pieces attach the spring to the brushes.
OK, back to the field winding enclosure. Here I have primed it and am waiting for the primer to dry. I just used a rattle can gray primer.
And here is the finished field winding housing. It took me 3 tries to get the wrinkle finish right. The first time, I ended up with very uneven "wrinkle" and started over. The second time, I used a quartz lamp to heat the piece which got excellent results however, it dropped to the floor while drying which drove me to a third try which you see here.
Here I just test fit the housing to the wiper motor frame and it looks pretty good!
Electrical Renovation
I was fortunate to discover the very excellent electrical diagram of the Lucas 2 speed windshield wiper motor that you see below. If anyone wants a .pdf copy of this just drop me a email and I will send it to you.
